In general, the gun caliber is lower than most BBsĪrmor is relatively non-existent, meaning most engagements should be mid to long range From my experience fighting them and reading about them, it appears that: I have a tendency to think that French BBs are more of a BB/cruiser hybrid class that is mainly good against cruisers. My natural reaction (though my mind is open) was to steer him off to other BB lines that are more user friendly. I've been trying to get some friends of mine into the game and one of them asked me about the French BB line. Not even all the fancy, high powered 457mm armed BBs can do what Yamato-class 460mm / Shikashima 510mm AP do. When the FR BB Line released, my friend who loved his Yamato played her all day getting nonstop Pens even against Republique. Once an AP shell is large enough where Overmatch kicks in against the armor section struck, there are zero bounce checks. But not having to worry about Fires and Non-stop HE Pens is a lot easier.Īlso do not forget, 460mm+ AP Overmatch 32mm armor. Mind you, you still have to worry about Fires, but Fires and its effects can be mitigated with proper consumables use and Survival Builds. It's German CLs with super high pen 150mm HE and High Tier CLs that can Pen 32mm that would be the concern. The one plus that they got was that typical HE focused mid tier CLs can no longer HE Pen their 32mm armor, even with IFHE. Before or after the IFHE update, it didn't matter. RN & FR BBs due to the thin exterior armor were always vulnerable to HE Spam. I love farming these ships in my high tier CLs, and I’d expect the inability of these guns to pen 32mm plating (no IFHE) or the dramatically reduced fire chance (IFHE) would benefit these ships the most. French and UK BBs’ biggest weakness, IMO, has always been the 32mm armor scheme present everywhere outside of the belt. I’m curious if any captains that regularly play high tier French (and British) BBs have noticed any changes in survivability since the IFHE changes.
